Great Character Building Books For Kids (That We Own And Love!)
Raising kids does not come with a specific manual. We as parents (and guardians) however have the gigantic task of trying to equip these little beings for the world that lies before them. Not just with love, happiness and a general sense of well-being. But, also with values that would be a blessing to this world.
Of course, the greatest character lessons that your child will learn (IMO) would be by the example you live. However, of course, books are always great too!
Here I am sharing with you a collection of character building books for kids that we own and enjoy with our girls.
Great Character Building Books For Kids
- Miss Rumphius A lovely book that reminds us that each of us can do at least one thing to make this world a better place.
- Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! It shows that there are reasons we are not allowed to do everything we may want to do and that getting angry does not make those reasons any less important.
- Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters A beautiful African Cinderella-like fairytale. It’s about two beautiful girls who react in different ways to the king’s search for a wife. One aggressive and selfish. the other kind and generous. As a mom of only girls, I love finding beautiful books that also features girls that look like them, which is hard to find.
- A Children’s Book About Disobeying This is part of the “Help Me Be Good Series“. So you can find other great books like this! My 5-year-old daughter runs and reads this to her now 4-year-old sister when she’s not listening! Too funny!
- The Most Magnificent Thing A great book about learning from your mistakes along the way to inventing something magnificent. This is also a great STEM learning read aloud!
- Horton Hears A Who! One of my absolute favorite books. Never get tired reading it. I recommend this book to anyone looking to put a smile on the face of others, “because after all, a person’s a person, no matter how small.”
- Empty Pot A lovely book explaining honesty.
- My Take-Along Bible One of my FAVORITE Bible books for the kiddos! They grew up on this. Fun to read.
- Aesop’s Fables: The Lion and the Mouse/ The Wind and the Sun Aesop’s Fables are always great books to have.
- Never Talk To Strangers This is great for toddlers! Also, you can check it out on Amazon, but I would try finding this one at a Thrift store. Excellent book, but could be pricey, even used on Amazon.
- Giraffes Can’t Dance A touching tale to encourage kids to ‘dance to their own tune’. Not everyone is the same, but you can good at what you can do. Just have to find that something.
- Your Body Belongs to you Having three young girls, a book like this was very important to me.
- Aesop’s Fables: The Miller and His Donkey/ The Greedy Dog Great books to have.
- I’m a good Friend! Part of a really great box set “The Best Me I Can Be Boxed Set”. The great part is the entire set is just around $25.00. Check it out!
- Amazing Grace A truly inspiring book. A story showing perseverance when trying to overcome societal obstacles like racism and sexism. A definite favorite for us.
- Rainbow Fish To The Rescue! Really wonderful lesson. This is one of those stories I love reading with my girls! As a Christian, it teaches kids about giving of themselves. Selfless love. However, I can appreciate that some may not like him giving up what makes him unique.
- Eggbert: The Slightly Cracked Egg Wonderful story about learning to love and appreciate yourself for who you are.
- Aesop’s Fables: The Town Mouse & the Country Mouse/ The Boy Who Cried Wolf Like I mentioned above, great books to own.
- The Tortoise And The Hare Part of Aesop’s Fables. Really excellent overall books!
- The Jesus Storybook Bible I’ve saved the best for last. This is now my favorite Bible for the girls as they’re getting older. My five-year old loves reading it. She often gets it to read on her own! Just got to love that!
- Hey, Al This little book teaches kids how to make what they already have better. After all miracle fixes are not really as great as portrayed.
- Grace For President A great book for little girls. Teaches them the value of hard work, and independent thought.
- Miles of Smiles A good book for teaching kids the value of a good attitude.
What books do you read to your little ones that you would suggest? Also, have I mentioned any that you’ve not read as yet, and would consider? Would love to hear from you!
Well, hope you have a blessed one,
