This trick is to help preschoolers with b d and p q confusion. At Preschool age, kids are now learning letter sounds and sight words. I have learnt that it is not uncommon for them to be confused with the b and d and also the p and q letters. Here is a trick to help preschoolers with b d and p q confusion (Plus Slideshow). This is what I have been using with my girls so they are able to help themselves whenever they get confused between the letters b and d, and also p and q. Since at this level they are able to learn basic words and sound them out, this is perfect for them!
b And d Letter Confusion
- Start with making two fists facing you.
- You can say ” Oh {child’s name} is lying in bed!”
- (Sound out)’b’ e in the middle, ‘e’, ‘d’-bed
- b-e-d. bed
- Slideshow just shows the progression, from start to finish. It helped my now five-year old who still uses the concept.
p And q Letter Confusion
- Start with making two fists facing you.
- Flip inwards then pointing downwards.
- You can say ” When I say my ABC’s, p comes first, q comes second!” Show them on an alphabet chart.
- Similarly, the slideshow just shows the progression, from start to finish.
These pictures were taken from recent Bible Studies and there she is reminding herself.
Using this Trick To Help Preschoolers With b d And p q Confusion, I have found my daughter to be so much more confident in writing words with these letters now that she’s doing more copy work. I suspect this may be from the fact that now she has the tools she needs to help herself. There is no need for her to feel bad for not remembering. Instead she gets to practice using this measure and with time she would master it.
Hope this helps and until next time, take care.
